Wrong-Way Driver Killed, Another Motorist Seriously Injured In Head-On Long Island Crash

Police are investigating a crash that killed a wrong-way driver and seriously injured another motorist overnight on Long Island.

It happened at around 11:15 p.m. Thursday, April 14 in Melville.

Marie Louis, age 56, of North Amityville, was driving a 2005 Honda Civic westbound in the eastbound lanes of Express Drive South at Maxess Road, when the vehicle collided head-on with an eastbound 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC, Suffolk County Police said.

Louis was transported to Nassau University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to police.

The driver of the Mercedes driven by Venetia Atkinson, age 61, of North Baldwin, was transported to the same hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded.
